What this hexagram is about
The sun rises above the earth, the light climbing higher — the image of advance and promotion. It speaks of pressing forward openly and honorably and letting one's virtue shine, rising with the momentum of things yet neither proud nor rash.
The Judgment 卦辞
晋，康侯用锡马蕃庶，昼日三接。
The peaceful prince is granted horses in abundance, and received in audience three times in a single day.

《象》曰：明出地上，晋；君子以自昭明德。
Brightness rises above the earth; so the noble person makes his own bright virtue shine.
Commentary on the Lines 小象传
晋如摧如，独行正也。
Advancing, then checked — walking alone in the right.

Nine at the top晋其角，维用伐邑，厉吉，无咎，贞吝。
Advance carried to its very tip, like horns pushed to their points — the firm grown rash; it serves only to set one's own town in order, turning the effort inward upon oneself; though there is danger, the end is good fortune and no fault — yet to keep to this leaves cause for regret.
Six in the fifth place悔亡，失得勿恤，往吉，无不利。
Remorse fades; do not reckon over passing gains and losses — to go forward brings good fortune, and nothing is unfavorable.
Nine in the fourth place晋如鼫鼠，贞厉。
To advance with the greed and timidity of a great rat, fretting over every gain and loss; to keep to this brings danger.
Six in the third place众允，悔亡。
All trust and follow, high and low of one heart — remorse fades away.
Six in the second place晋如愁如，贞吉。受兹介福，于其王母。
Advancing, yet with care in the heart; hold to the right and there is good fortune. From one's revered elder will come this great blessing.
Initial Six晋如摧如，贞吉。罔孚，裕无咎。
In a time of advance, now forward, now held back and checked; hold to the right and there is good fortune. Even when one is not yet trusted, take it with an easy heart, and there is no fault.
