What this hexagram is about
The lake risen over the earth, all things gathering — the image of assembling and coming together. Let the gathering be by a right way, in sincerity, and with foresight: hearts are drawn together by the upright path, and in gathering a crowd one must also guard against trouble before it comes.
The Judgment 卦辞
萃，亨。王假有庙，利见大人，亨，利贞。用大牲吉，利有攸往。
Success. The king approaches his temple. It is favorable to see the great person. Success. Favorable to persevere. Offering great sacrifice brings good fortune. It is favorable to have somewhere to go.
The Image 大象传
《象》曰：泽上于地，萃；君子以除戎器，戒不虞。
The lake rises over the earth, gathering; so the noble person keeps his weapons ready and guards against the unforeseen.
Commentary on the Lines 小象传
乃乱乃萃，其志乱也。
Now in disorder, now gathering — the will itself is in confusion.

Nine at the top赍咨涕洟，无咎。
Sighing and weeping, tears streaming down — the gathering at its height about to scatter, and one searches oneself in anxious dread — and so there is no fault.
Nine in the fifth place萃有位，无咎。匪孚，元永贞，悔亡。
To gather all under Heaven while holding to one's proper place — there is no fault. If some still do not sincerely submit, hold long to the virtue of utmost rectitude, and remorse fades of itself.
Six in the fourth place大吉，无咎。
The highest good fortune, and no fault — hearts gathered far and wide, high and low giving their allegiance.
Six in the third place萃如嗟如，无攸利，往无咎，小吝。
Wishing to gather yet unable to draw together, sighing on and on, profits nothing; to press forward brings no great fault, yet a small regret in the end.
Six in the second place引吉，无咎，孚乃利用禴。
Drawn together by another's recommendation, to gather thus brings good fortune and no fault; so long as sincerity is in the heart, even a meager offering will serve.
Initial Six有孚不终，乃乱乃萃，若号，一握为笑，勿恤，往无咎。
Sincere at heart but unable to hold steady, one is now scattered, now gathered, never settled; but call out for union, and grief turns to laughter and clasped hands. Do not fret — go forward, and there is no fault.
